Basic information and contact details for Vancouver Community College

institution

Vancouver Community College (VCC) is a public community college in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It was formed in 1965 as Vancouver City College, following a merger of four local educational institutions: the Vancouver Vocational Institute, the Vancouver School of Art, the Vancouver School Board's Night School Programme, and the King Edward Senior Matriculation and Continuing Education Centre. It was renamed to Vancouver Community College in 1974.

VCC is the largest and oldest community college in British Columbia.

Students can choose from some 78 certificate programmes, 28 diploma programmes, and three bachelor's degree programmes. The college offers both full-time and part-time programmes. Individual courses are also available to supplement high school education or offer continuing education. Courses cover a range of subjects and industries including health sciences, technology, business and human and family services among others.

VCC has three campuses in Broadway, Downtown, and Annacis Island. Its on-campus facilities - including restaurants, a mechanics and salon and spa - allow students to hone their skills and training while providing high-quality lower-cost services to the Downtown and East Vancouver communities.

There are over 50 languages spoken on campus, with students from some 150 countries. Some 36 per cent of students are male and 64 per cent of students are female. VCC is a member of the Coastal Corridor Consortium, which works to improve levels of participation and success for indigenous students.
