The Usmanu Danfodiyo University was established in 1975 by the Federal Government of Nigeria and was known as The University of Sokoto. Both campuses are located in the Wakmmakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Nigeria. Across two campuses, City and UDUTH, the university offers a broad range of degree programmes within 18 faculties.
The university has 18 faculties and a postgraduate school, which include: agriculture, arts, Arabic and Islamic studies, health sciences, engineering and environmental design, education and extension services, law, management sciences, chemical and life sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, physical and computing sciences, social sciences, veterinary medicine, allied health sciences, basic clinical sciences, basic medical sciences, clinical sciences, dental science, and medical lab science.
As an Islamic institution, the university also has a Centre for Islamic Studies which aims to promote the study and research of Islam. The centre runs a diploma programme in Islamic studies, as well as certificate courses in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
