The Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil was established in 1981.
The university first operated across two campuses with the Police Training School supplying cadet inspectors in Kano while more senior ranks, known as ASPs, were trained at Kaduna. In 1996 the two were merged into the current institution at Wudil in Kano State.
It was awarded university status in 2012.
Each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Capital Territory are allotted 12 places, and the selection process runs through state, zonal and national levels. Applicants have to be Nigerian citizens, although a handful of officers from Gambia and Sierra Leone have been admitted in the past.
As well as a minimum score of 180 in Nigeria’s UTME entrance test, applicants have to pass physical screening and to be a minimum of 5ft6in (men) or 5ft4in (women).
Students can study between faculties of law, science, social and management science and humanities.
