The Latin American University for Science and Technology (ULACIT) is a bilingual university located in San Jose, Costa Rica. Teaching is conducted in both English and Spanish. It was established in 1987 but was preceded by a school that was established in 1936.

There are 53 undergraduate degrees available and 42 graduate programmes across seven schools. These include engineering; information and communication technologies; film and animation; art and design; business administration; health sciences and social sciences.

English-taught programmes include business administration, international relations, English teaching and translation, preschool English teaching and general education courses.

Many international students and faculty from around around the world attend ULACIT. Approximately nine per cent of students are international, from 26 different nationalities. There are approximately 3,500 students in total.

All of the courses are 100 per cent project-based, without any exams. Learning is instead focused on inquiry, research and problem solving.

The university offers the Academic Cultural Exchange Programme which combines Spanish language courses with other disciplines such as Latin American Business, Literature and Environmental Sciences. These programmes take place all year round.

The university has study abroad agreements with universities in the US, Australia, Spain, Amsterdam and Brazil among others.

The university is located in the main banking area of San Jose and is within walking distance from many of the city's main attractions including the Central Park, the National Theatre, the National Museum, the Supreme Court, the Congress Building and the Central Bank.

There are also many museums, art galleries, cultural centres, shops and restaurants around the university that students can visit and enjoy.
