Kobe City University of Foreign Studies was founded in 1946 as Kobe Municipal College of Foreign Affairs.
It is a co-educational college with a four-year curriculum located in the historic city of Kobe, one of the ancient cities damaged in the Second World War.
Popularly known as "Gakuen-toshi," in Japanese, referring to the academic town, the new campus is located amidst the quiet surroundings overlooking scenic mountains in the western part of Kobe.
Kobe City University of Foreign Studies currently offers graduate and undergraduate courses in five major departments: English, Russian, Chinese, Spanish and international relations.
The university also offers doctoral degrees in international cultural studies. Its study partners include some of the top universities of the world like Monash University, Fudan University, Lancaster University and Augustana College.
In order to assist students and faculties gain cross-cultural exposure, the university offers students and faculty the opportunity to undertake exchange programmes at other universities around the world. Some of the renowned universities in this programme include University of Moscow, Northeast Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, the University of Alcala, and Sapienza University.
