Augustana College is an arts college based in Rock Island, Illinois, which covers 115 acres of hilly, wooded land, Augustana is adjacent to the Mississippi River offering breath-taking views to students.
Augustana currently has almost 100 academic programmes, which include: accounting, applied mathematics, art, computer science, journalism, theatre studies, international business and graphic design.?
The Fryxell Geology Museum – named after Augustana geologist Fritiof Fryxell – features a large collection of dinosaurs and fossils, rocks and mineral specimens and is located in the Swenson Hall of Geosciences and is open during the academic year for students, staff, and visitors.?
Augustana has many other organisations run by the campus which include: The National Association for Music Education, a National Band Association chapter, American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Paintball Team (NCPA), Psychology Club, Business Club, DDR Club, and Viking Pups – a club dedicated to training service dogs on campus.
Sport is an integral part of Augustana, and the Augustana Vikings compete in the NCAA Division III College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Vikings compete in a combined total of 22 male and female team sports, and the majority of students compete in some form of varsity.
Current varsity sports include: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling.
Notable alumni include A. J. Carlson, the chairman of the Physiology Department at the University of Chicago, Daniel Tsui,a Nobel Prize winner, and Donald K. Sundquist, former United States Congressman and Governor of Tennessee.
