(Photograph) - Live wire: John Knapton, Newcastle University's professor of civil engineering, has been lecturing to third-year students from a construction site using the audio visual centre's microwave link to transmit back pictures to the lecture theatre. There are health and safety difficulties in taking students on to sites, and the microwave link allows students to see work in progress and ask questions. Professor Knapton hopes the technology can be developed to extend the link to construction sites throughout Tyneside.
