Cambridge dons have voted to retain the eight-week term. Most universities operate a ten week term, often with a reading week in the middle. Lecturers were asked to vote on whether to introduce a reading week, so stretching the term to nine weeks.
This would have cut the holidays, which are often used by teaching staff for research. The vote was 431 in favour and 1,194 against.
