Dundee nurses an ambition

May 17, 1996

Dundee University is poised to add unique breadth to nurse education in Scotland next session when nursing and midwifery courses are brought into higher education.

The trainee nurses and midwives will be part of an integrated medical faculty as Dundee is the only one of the seven higher education institutions winning contracts for the courses to have a medical school. Around 1,300 students from Tayside College of Nursing and Midwifery and Fife College of Health Studies will join Dundee in September in a contract worth Pounds 30 million over five years.

Principal Ian Graham-Bryce said fostering links between medicine and nursing would allow true multiprofessional learning. The university has hailed this as a step towards recognising nurses and doctors as equal partners.
