HERE AND NOW. The Whitworth Gallery at the University of Manchester is exhibiting the work of 15 contemporary artists to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Society of Wood Engravers until February 10. PRAGMATISM AND RELIGION

Wilhelm Hennis of the University of Freiburg will talk about "Max Weber and William James - Pragmatism and the Sociology of Religion" on January 12 at 2.30pm at the German Historical Institute, 17 Bloomsbury Square, London.

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE

A two-day conference entitled "Students Supporting Students: Principles and Practice" will be held on February 21 and 22 at the Moat House Hotel, Northampton. Themes will include: principles; rewards for students; training and support. LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

The University of Sheffield is hosting a conference on March 18 and 19 to examine learning which transcends disciplinary boundaries and specialisms, exploring a research approach to learning and teaching. Workshop sessions will cover the relationship between teaching and research; curriculum issues; changing practices of teaching and learning. ELECTRONIC COPYRIGHT

The Association for Information Management has organised a one-day workshop on copyright law's effect on electronic media. Themes covered on January 31 will include: what is copyright - how is it obtained, who owns it, types of copyright; how it applies to electronic media - software copyright, literary works and electronic copyright, the position of CD-Rom, floppy disc and online databases. DESTRUCTION AND PRESERVATION

The Center for Holocaust Study and the History of the Book at Drew University are co-sponsoring a conference on "The Holocaust and the Book: Destruction and Preservation". Academics, teachers, librarians and the public are invited to the conference on November 14, 1996. Proposals are invited for papers on issues including: burning; confiscation; censorship; book preservation; ghetto, camp and clandestine libraries; underground, official and collaborationist publishing; keeping of journals and diaries.
