Université Mohamed Boudiaf de M'sila was set up in 1985 as a multidisciplinary public institution and gained university status in 2001. It is located in the large town of M'sila in Algeria. It now has more than 36,000 students, 1,400 teachers and 1260 technical and administrative staff.
There are seven faculties at the Université Mohamed Boudiaf: the faculty of technology, the faculty of sciences, the faculty of mathematics and computer science, the faculty of law and political sciences, the faculty of economics, the faculty of letters and languages and the faculty of humanities and social sciences.
There are also two national institutes: the Institute of Management of Urban Techniques and the Institute of Science and Technology of Physical and Sports Activities.
It has 23 research laboratories. The university has established several research conventions cooperating with academic institutions in countries such as France, Romania, Turkey, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Jordan. These are designed to facilitate scientific exchange and develop the mobility of research professors, students and academic staff.
The Université Mohamed Boudiaf was named after the Algerian politician, Mohamed Boudiaf, who was a founding member of the National Liberation Front (FLN). He joined the Algerian People’s Party (APP) and became an important member of the Special Organisation (OS), before being assassinated in 1992.
M'Sila is a province (wilaya) of northern Algeria and it has a population of 1 million people and an area of 18,718 square kilometres while its capital, also called M'sila has a population of about 100,000.
