Rongo University can trace its roots back to a technical school founded in the 1970s. It gained its current name and university status in 2011.
Students are based within schools of education, arts, social sciences and business, science, agricultural science and environmental studies, information communication and media studies.
The university library provides academic support and e-resources for students.
The university has formed partnerships with a range of universities including the University of Brighton and Nottingham Trent University.
It is a member of the Food and Agriculture Organisation’s Family Farming Knowledge Programme and has a number of research programmes around beekeeping and honey production.
