King’s College is a liberal arts college in the town of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, one of six higher learning institutions in this student-centric city. The university is affiliated to the Roman Catholic Church, and on its founding in 1946 was known as the College of Christ the King.
There are currently thirty-seven majors offered at undergraduate level, with courses offered at the Arts & Sciences school and the McGovern School of Business. King’s also contains centres for Physical Education and Training, and the Parente Life Sciences Centre. The English programme is divided between Literature and Professional Writing, the former of which comprises of an artistic and contextual analysis of cultural texts, while the latter is taught around the practical considerations of getting paid to write.
The dedicated Office of Career Planning, assists students from freshman year onwards. As part of this structure students can apply for an internship programme upon receiving at least sixty college credits, which will allow them to experience a professional environment in their field prior to graduation. There are also study abroad programmes for King’s students, offering education opportunities on six different continents for both short-term faculty led courses or time spent learning from the partnered institution
Varsity teams play under a badge bearing the royal animal of the lion with a crown upon his head. The Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships are held annually at the tennis facilities on campus, and the Robert L. Betzler Fields Athletic Complex contains arenas for football, baseball and field hockey. Sports events are also included in the variety of clubs and organisations available at King’s, including the Ski and Snowboard Club, and ultimate frisbee.
