对于 Edinboro University
Edinboro University of Pennsylvania was founded in 1857 as Edinboro Academy. The residents of Edinboro, Pennsylvania paid for the land and building work for the school, which was created to train teachers for the region. It was purchased by the state in 1914. The school developed a liberal arts curriculum and degree programmes, and became Edinboro University in 1983.
The university and its home town both share Scottish heritage, having been founded by Scottish immigrants. Traditions from Scotland have been passed on to the town, including an annual Highland Games festival with competitions in hammer throw, caber toss and other heavy athletics. Scottish music has influenced the university, which has its own pipe band and uses “Scotland the Brave” as its fight song. Athletics teams compete under the nickname “The Fighting Scots”.
Art has a high profile at Edinboro University. There are two galleries on site, the Bates and the Bruce. Students can volunteer to work in the Bruce Gallery and talented individuals may be chosen to exhibit. The Bruce also exhibits the work of professional artists. The Bates Gallery is student-run and artists can submit their work for selection.
Edinboro University’s main campus is 585 acres close to Lake Erie. A second campus in Erie, named Porreco College, offers certification and associate degrees in vocational subjects such as medical assistance, preschool education and business administration.
In their free time, students can use the campus pool, rope course, climbing gym and recreation area. There are over 100 student associations, encompassing sports, academics, faith, culture and more.
