Despite acknowledging the importance of contradictory examples in the study of the humanities, James Nikopoulos (Opinion, 9 March) remarks on a society’s skill sets relevant to the “passions of their populace”. Is he seriously suggesting that people at work – whether unskilled, technical, social or symbol-crunching – are very likely to be in love with their labours rather than quietly getting things done but very much looking forward to the weekend?
