Alan Wilson, vice chancellor of Leeds University, is to chair the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals group on university finances, resources and management.
The group is one of nine created as part of the new CVCP committee system, approved during the recent annual residential meeting in Belfast. They will be expected to create and maintain links with key external bodies, develop and promote CVCP policy and report regularly to its council and executive committee.
The eight sector groups and chairmen are: Health, Sir Colin Campbell (Nottingham); Environmental and Biological Sciences, Sir Brian Follett (Warwick); Humanities, arts and social sciences, Peter North (Oxford); Industry, engineering and physical sciences, Tom Husband (Salford); Information systems and telecommunications, Maxwell Irvine (currently Aberdeen, but moving to Birmingham in October 1996); Learning and employment, Leslie Wagner (Leeds Metropolitan); European and international markets, Richard Luce (Buckingham); Students and staff, Clive Booth (Oxford Brookes).
The chairmen are now consulting CVCP chair Gareth Roberts and committee officials over membership, which will include outside experts as well as vice chancellors.
