French president Emmanuel Macron has launched a website for disillusioned scientists to apply for research funding after US president Donald Trump’s decided to pull his country out of the Paris climate change agreement.
In a video posted on the website Mr Macron said that all scientists could find in France a “second homeland”.
“I call on them come here and work with us, work together on concrete solutions for our climate, our environment,” he said.
France’s initiative offers senior researchers grants of up to €1.5 million (?1.3 million) over four years and junior researchers grants of up to €1 million over the same period.
The website is called?Make Our Planet Great Again, a play on Mr Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again”.
Applicants will get an answer to their bids in under a month, according to the site, which adds that a “package of support for practical issues related to the move” will be provided.
