The comedian Ruby Wax has revealed that she has learnt to cope with depression by practising "mindfulness" - a technique that combines cognitive behaviour therapy with meditation. Bangor and Oxford universities have been instrumental in researching and teaching the technique. They are now conducting a large-scale clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of mindfulness in alleviating recurrent depression.
