. . . and learning

二月 3, 1995

Joseph Evans (THES, November 11) has presented a good idea on the issues of the roles of universities concerning student accommodation. As casual sex and drug-related problems occur in many university halls of residence, I believe that it is necessary for universities to reconsider their mission, and provide more guidance in moral values for students and thus help to create for them a better living environment.

Loud parties at which noisy music is played into the early hours of the morning are all too common. The universities seem unable to provide clear counsel on students' social responsibilities, and are content merely to find places for their students to stay.

I personally believe that universities are not in the business of selling degrees, but should play a significant role in helping young people learn wisdom, distinguish between right and wrong, become more aware of their responsibilities to others and care for those in need in our society.
