Tomatoes can fight the sun's damaging effects on the skin, a team from Manchester and Newcastle universities has found.
The researchers said that people who ate tomato paste in the study got some protection from sunburn and a reduction in skin ageing caused by sunlight. Mark Birch-Machin, professor of molecular dermatology at Newcastle University, said: "Eating tomatoes will not make you invincible in the sun, but it may be a useful addition to sun protection along with sunscreens, shade and clothing."
